All American has change much through the years, But personally I would think They are just as high quality Now as they were Then,,, This is the Only canner we Use personally for our Garden vegetables, Very safe, No rubber seal is needed because they are beveled and Tighten down on all area's of lid... For keeping this clean, just clean and oil it after each use. I have put this on the outside Grill as some pictures show, if you look, the Guage is working , you adjust the heat for the correct amount of pressure for cooking or it gets to hot and the safety valve opens, So, I let this get to much pressure and As it should, the safety valve opened up and let the steam out, so I turned it down on heat and adjusted it to the pressure you see, So it is Holding steady pressure. All of our older cooker usually has a small bubble on edge's but after you cook a few times with them they usually seal with no steam leaking, These do not use a Rubber Seal that can blow and damage your cooker, So very Durable and will last forever.

I have one that my mother gave me, it is at least 45 years old and still works like it did New, as long as I keep the seal cleaned and oiled, and each time Clean the Pressure valve's of the Fat or broth build up,, also we usually change our Pressure gauge every 3 Years, This gauge works but probably is time to change it. 21-1/2-quart pressure cooker/canner holds 19 pint jars or 7 quart jars.
